Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup warm milk
- ½ cup butter (softened)
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp dry yeast
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ cup mixed dried fruit (raisins, currants, candied peel)
- ¼ cup chopped almonds
- 2 tbsp rum or orange juice (to soak fruit)
- ½ cup marzipan (optional, for the centre)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Soak dried fruit in rum or orange juice for 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 10 minutes.
- Add butter, egg, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
- Add flour and knead until soft and smooth.
- Fold in soaked fruit and almonds.
- Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
- Shape the dough into an oval. Place marzipan in the middle and fold dough over it.
- Bake at 175°C (350°F) for 30–35 minutes, until golden.
- Brush with melted butter and dust generously with powdered sugar.
