  • 500 g beef (or plant-based strips)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
  • Cooked rice (for serving)
  • Avocado slices
  • Lime wedges
  • Fresh coriander
  • Sweetcorn (optional)
  • Black beans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pot and sauté the onion until soft.
  2. Add garlic, tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, paprika, and oregano. Stir.
  3. Add beef (or plant alternative) and mix well.
  4. Pour in broth, cover, and simmer 20–25 minutes until tender.
  5. Assemble your bowl: rice, birria-style meat, avocado, black beans, and sweetcorn.
  6. Spoon some broth over the top for that classic birria flavour.
  7. Garnish with lime and coriander.

Mani’s Tip 🍽️

For extra depth, add a spoonful of the broth over your rice before layering the toppings. It makes the whole bowl melt together!

Blessing ✨

May every bowl bring warmth to your home,
comfort to your table,
and joy to everyone who shares a meal with you.
