Ingredients
Cake
- 250 g plain flour
- 300 g sugar
- 2 eggs (100g)
- 240 ml buttermilk
- 120 ml vegetable oil
- 15 g cocoa powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (5 ml)
- 1 tsp white vinegar (5 ml)
- 1 tsp baking soda (5 g)
- Red food coloring (liquid or gel)
- Pinch of salt
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 250 g cream cheese
- 100 g butter (softened)
- 200 g icing sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (5 ml)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175°C / 350°F. Grease two round cake tins.
- Mix flour, cocoa powder, and salt in a bowl.
- In another bowl, beat sugar and oil, then add eggs and mix.
- Add buttermilk, vanilla, and red food coloring. Mix well.
- Add dry ingredients into wet ingredients. Stir gently.
- Mix vinegar and baking soda separately, then add to the batter.
- Pour into tins and bake 25–30 minutes.
- Let cool completely before frosting.
- Whip cream cheese, butter, icing sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
- Frost the cake and decorate with berries or Christmas sprinkles.
